Kalita Wave Brew Guide

Step 1

Place the filter in the Kalita dripper

Step 2

Gently pour boiling water through the filter to rinse the filter and warm your decanter. Be careful not to flatten any of the ridges as you pour.

Step 3

Weigh out your coffee to be ground.

Step 4

Fill kettle with water and begin heating it.

Step 5

Grind coffee on a fine setting. You want it to be finer than sea salt.

Step 6

Weigh out the desired grams into the Kalita. Place the Kalita + your cup on the scale and zero out the scale. Gently tap to flatten the coffee bed.

Step 7

After the water begins to boil, remove the kettle from the heat source and let the water settle. Start your timer and pour enough water to saturate the coffee bed. Allow the grounds to bloom for 30 seconds.

Step 8

Begin your second pour using slow circular motions around the filter, adding enough to raise the grounds halfway up the filter. Do this in stages (pulses). Submerge the slurry (grounds and water) as you go, letting the slurry drop a little before adding water. By the time you finish, your timer should be at 2:45-3 minutes.

Step 9

Once you have 400 grams of water, give the slurry a little stir and wait for it to drain. Your total brew time should be between 3:30-3:50.

Pro Tip: You’ve done it correctly if the coffee bed is flat once its finished draining.
